Tap anywhere on screen to fire one Tomahawk missile at the nearest threat (costs 1 charge).
Hold for 0.7 seconds to charge and release a heavy 3-missile salvo at up to 3 threats simultaneously (costs 2 charges). An amber ring grows at your touch point as the salvo charges.

Hold and drag anywhere in the lower portion of the screen. Your vessel follows the offset of your thumb from where you first touched down — this is a virtual-analog stick, not a teleport. Lift your finger to stop lateral movement.

Charges regenerate automatically over time — roughly one charge every 3 seconds. Watch the HUD pips: a partially-filled pip shows recharge progress. If you need an instant refill, grab an amber airdrop crate (labeled +AMMO) — it fully restocks your magazine.

Two types of supply crate parachute down the corridor during each run:
• Green crate (+HULL) — repairs hull damage. Steer into it to collect.
• Amber crate (+AMMO) — instantly refills all Tomahawk charges.
Crates are always visible (never hidden by radar fog). A floating label and burst ring confirm collection.

Salvage is the in-game currency you earn at the end of every run — win or lose. It's calculated from:
• Distance — metres traveled north
• Kills — threats destroyed
• Checkpoints — bonus for each leg completed (1–4)
Spend salvage in the fleet screen to unlock the Patrol Boat (600◆) or Escort Frigate (1,500◆).

There are 4 legs, each ~90 seconds long. When a leg timer fills, a checkpoint flash overlay ("LEG N CLEARED") appears, all active threats are cleared, and a brief pause gives you a breath before the next leg begins with a higher spawn rate and tougher threat mix.

Yes! Clearing all 4 legs means you've navigated the full length of the strait. The run ends with your stats card (distance, kills, salvage banked). Your score and best run are saved permanently.

Yes. All progress — salvage, unlocks, selected ship, and lifetime bests — is saved locally on your device via iOS UserDefaults. It persists across app restarts and iOS updates. There is no cloud save or account required.

Deleting the app removes all saved data (salvage, unlocks, bests). This is standard iOS behavior — there is no cloud backup. We recommend not deleting the app unless you want a fresh start.

If you use iPhone Migration or restore from an iCloud/iTunes backup, app data (including game save) is transferred automatically by iOS. Manual data export is not currently supported.

No. All gameplay is 100% offline. An internet connection is only used to load banner ads (Google AdMob). If you're offline, the ad slots remain blank and the game runs normally.

1. Force-quit the app (swipe up from the app switcher) and relaunch.
2. Restart your iPhone.
3. Check for an app update in the App Store.
4. Ensure your iPhone is running iOS 17.0 or later (Settings → General → Software Update).

Strait of Hormuz targets 60 fps and is optimized for iPhone. If you experience frame drops:

• Close other apps running in the background.
• Ensure your device is not in Low Power Mode (Settings → Battery).
• The game runs better when the device is cool — if your phone is warm from extended use, let it rest briefly.

Strait of Hormuz is completely free to download and play. There are no in-app purchases and no premium currency. All ships are unlocked by earning in-game salvage through normal play. Revenue is generated by two small AdMob banner ads (top and bottom of screen).

When you first launch the app, you'll be shown Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. Choosing Ask App Not to Track puts the ad system in limited mode — you'll still see ads but they won't be personalized. You can change this later in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking → Strait of Hormuz.
